GIGS THAT I'VE ATTENDED - 1989
Any links on this page lead to reviews, memories, ticket stubs, photographs and other memorabilia from my collection.
The idea is to have a page for each concert eventually - when I find time to trawl trough the archives.
If anyone reading this was at any of these concerts and would like to jog my memory then feel free to contact me.

Garth Rockett and the MOONSHINERS  <1> Morcambe The Gardens
/03/89
£ This was the first gig I think I ever reviewed. Around this time I was creating a little Deep Purple fanzine and this show was my featured review. A couple of months later Gillan was oput of Purple and rather sad but tonight, other than a dodgy voice, he gave us his all in a small and crowded venue. I still have some copies of this (very) limited collectors edition should you be daft enough to want one.

BLACK SABBATH  <2> (alt: Sheffield review) Edinburgh Playhouse
Line-up:
Tony Martin - Vocals
Tony Iommi - Guitar Neil Murray - Bass
Cozy Powell - Drums
Geoff Nicholls - Keyboards
5/09/89
£ This version of Black Sabbath toured for the entire Headless Cross album, of which this show was part, and also recorded the following amnd rather spendid one, Tyr.
GUN  <1> Aberdeen Ritzy
6/10/89
£ An early start to the show and a late lie in after a night shift meant I missed the support band (Little Angels possibly) and I didn't reckon the Scotland's great white hope Gun. Bit of a wasted trip really. Someone emailed me to disagree with my view on Gun but all I can say is that it is JUST MY VIEW.
FISH  <1> Haddington Corn Exchange
11/10/89
£ A couple of charity shows for the local Lifeboat association and only the third gig the new solo Fish had played (the previous two being another charity show for the victims of the Lockerbie plane crash and a fanclub gig in Holland. Tonight was the first proper gig with the band that recorded the State of Mind single (which the tour promoted) and forthcoming album Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors.

FISH  <3> RAW review Elgin Town Hall
16/10/89
£ Having to back on shift I missed the Berwick and Dingwall shows but caught up with the tour at home in Elgin for the third date of the tour proper. Fish appeared in the local record shop for a signing session as I think this was the day of release. I'll try to dig out the local paper clipping and add it to the page. I think it has to be the only time I've seen an Elgin gig reviewed in a national rock mag - RAW.

11/11/89
£8 Second last gig of the first solo Fish tour. I was in Reading on a training course and as this show fell on a Saturday gell on a Saturday I headed into London to see if tickets were still available having enjoyed the early shows I'd seen. The box office said sold out so a rather sad me began the walk back to the tube. About a hundred yards down the road I spotted a couple of familiar faces; the Brzezicki brothers - two of the band. I said hello and mentioned I'd seen the earlier shows in the wastes of Scotland and they were good enough to offer to put my name on the guest list. Excellent, thanks guys.
The show is supposedly available as the first disc and first 3 songs of the second on 'The Complete BBC Sessions'. The title is slightly misleading as State of Mind and Internal Exile are missing from the CD (probably as they were not broadcast and therefore dumped). I say supposedly as the gig was the penultimate of the tour but fish says on the CD that it is the last night of the tour. In the Nov 1989 newsletter he mentions that "Radio 1 are recording Nov 12 at the Town & Country Club, London for transmission in, I think, December." So, believe what you will, the official Fish site these days claims the date to be the 11th but there is no mention on the CD of a date for either show.
