GIGS THAT I'VE ATTENDED - 2001
Any links on this page lead to reviews, memories, ticket stubs, photographs and other memorabilia from my collection.
The idea is to have a page for each concert eventually - when I find time to trawl trough the archives.
If anyone reading this was at any of these concerts and would like to jog my memory then feel free to contact me.

FISH [alt: JY site] <22> Leeuwarden Muziekcentrum Schaaf Holland
27/01/2001
f35,- My first trip to Holland and my first overseas music trip NOT to see Deep Purple. The singing audience was recorded for use on the Fellini Days album.
FISH <23> Utrecht Tivoli, Holland (Company convention)
28/1/2001
£ A convention including an ask-Fish, short solo sets by JY and Wes then the main event - and more punter recording.
GREENSLADE [alt: JY site]  <3> Crewe Limelight Club
7/2/2001
£7.00 Great venue and a very enjoyable performance for a friendly crowd.
JADIS  <4> Southampton The Brook
8/2/2001
£7.00 A night off from Greenslade to see Jadis on their home turf.

GREENSLADE [alt: JY site]   <4>
Guy MANNING  <1>

Rotherham
10/2/2001
£ Another long drive to Rotherham but with an American guest this time. Read Mary-Cat's review by clicking on the alternate link to the left.
GREENSLADE [alt: JY site]   <5>
LANDMARQ  <2>
Liscombe Park, Soulbury
11/2/2001
£ A nightmare to find but worth it when you eventually get there. Landmarq were much rockier than Greenslade. A short video clip from this show is on the JY site.
Paul RODGERS  <3>
ASIA   <1>
Bournemouth Pavilion
19/2/2001
£16:50 I went with an open mind but ASIA 2001 didn't impress and Paul R was a disappointment too. Not worth the money or the 150 mile round trip.
WOLFSTONE  <> Bristol Fiddlers Nightclub
23/2/2001
£ Much more worthwhile a trip to see an old favourite far from their normal territory. A slowish audience were soon enticed to dance and an enjoyable evening was had by all.
John YOUNG [alt: JY site]   <25> Reading Beethoven's
25/2/2001
£ .
John YOUNG  <26> Southampton Talking Heads
1/3/2001
£3 Advertising was not what it could have been for this show ( ) so only a small gathering of the faithful and a few locals for this evening.
JUMP  <25> Reading Beethovens
3/3/2001
free First date of the year for our faves from High Wycombe. Half the band blinded us with their new shirts and then surprised with some country music. Tracy almost choked on her shandy!
John WETTON  <3>
John YOUNG  <27>
Southampton The Brook
10/3/2001
£ A return to the first venue I saw a Wetton show. A new album and guitarist (John Mitchell) plus the added incentive of JY supporting made this a show to be at.
URIAH HEEP  <>
NAZARETH  <>
STRAY <>
Portsmouth Pyramid Centre
15/3/2001
£11.00 A three band bill of 30+ year in the biz bands and the dates sold out. This I feel is the way bands should be marketed in this country. Give fans 2 or 3 bands of a similar ilk and the punters get value for money while the bands sell out venues.
John WETTON  <4>
John YOUNG  <28>
Worcester Park Club
16/3/2001
£ We arrived just behind JY but most of the main band were an hour behind us, arriving well after door opening time. A shortened set from both Young and Wetton was the result.
JUMP  <26>
acoustic CADRE  <2>
Stokenchurch Memorial Hall
17/3/2001
£ Lowest turnout yet at this venue and I was getting fed up of the 'country' push being forced on the audience.
JUMP  <27> Newbury King Charles Tavern, Berkshire
23/3/2001
free A band redeemed - until a final unnecessary comment spoilt it.
JUMP  <28> Milton Keynes Zak's, Wolverton
24/3/2001
£ I'm afraid this review had to be written. I held back from writing up the previous three but, well... have a read and see.
John WETTON  <5>
RX  <1>
John YOUNG  <29>
London Astoria
30/3/2001
£ Only a 25 minute JY set because of a very short notice (one day - but they were videoing their set so that must make it OK extra Japanese band on the bill) and a stonking Wetton show with Dave Kilminster back 'for one night only'.
KARNATAKA  <3> Reading Beethoven's
31/3/2001
£2.00 Some mellow prog tinted tunes from a band who are finally expanding out of native Wales.
John YOUNG [alt: JY site]   <30> Andover The Swallow
1/4/2001
free We were no fools in revisiting The Swallow for another JY show, this time with a few foreign visitors in tow.
Carl PALMER drum clinic  <1> Reading Drumwright
3/4/2001
£ One man, lots of drums and admissions of stealing. Interesting evening.
John YOUNG  <31> Bentworth The Star, Hants
6/4/ 2001
free Home turf again but not such a long set tonight.
JUMP  <28> Salisbury The Cloisters
12/4/2001
free A old and multi partitioned bar with the 'stage' area being a window alcove into which the band only managed to squeeze a drumkit. Everything else spilled into the main bar - and it is not the best bar for that to happen in. A stonking show which easily made up for the first four this year.
DOCTOR WHO play 'Vox Dei' Portsmouth New Theatre Royal
21/4/2001
£7.50 Not a gig but a theatre production of an original (not very original plotwise - it is Doctor Who after all) story.
FISH [alt: JY site]   <24> Dalkeith "Number 10" Masonic Lodge
29/4/2001
£ Warm Up show for the forthcoming tour in the rather different surroundings of a real Masonic lodge.
FISH <25> Glasgow, Garage
3/5/2001
£ A rather poor show - worst of the recent dates mainly due to too much politics and football creeping in. The new album was available her for the first time - it arrived in Haddington the previous day.
WOLFSTONE <> Fochabers
6/5/2001
£10.00 A stonking performance in an extremely hot venue. Forget Bristol this is how the band should be seen. Well worth the 600 mile drive and far superior to the Fish show a couple of nights earlier.
JUMP  <30> Bracknell Boot
11/5/2001
free First ever Bracknell gig for the band - timed nicely as I moved out a week earlier.
JUMP  <31> Aylesbury Limelight Theatre
1/6/2001
£7.00 The gig clashed with Marillion playing a few miles away in Hemmel Hempstead but the show was still almost sold out. The evening was videoed for potential future release.
FISH [alt: JY site] <26> London, Mean Fiddler
6/6/ 2001
£14.50 Back on form for a busy Mean Fiddler. JY had left to join the Scorpions but he turned up to show there was no hard feeling between him and the 'big man'.
JUMP  <32> Leighton Buzzard The Wheatsheaf
8/6/ 2001
free Another long, slow, drive to LB and when we arrived the venue was very quiet. Reason? AC/DC are playing just a few miles up the road at Milton Keynes Bowl. Still, we had a nice chat with John and Pete before the show and had the pleasure of Pete playing bass (not very well) and drums - better. Bet you can't wait for the photos to see if I'm joking!
JUMP  <33> Reading Beethoven's, Tilehurst
9/6/ 2001
£2 No longer free entry before 8pm but at least you now get a ticket for your £2.
SAS Band  <1> Southampton Brook
14/6/2001
£ Went to see Fish (again talking to JY) but was very impressed with Chris Thomson. The guy has an incredible voice.
THE MORRIGAN  <3> Salisbury The Kings Arms
15/6/2001
free Home town show in a small, central, pub.
SPOCK'S BEARD <> London Astoria
16/6/2001
£10.50 Second show this year and a move upstairs to the 'big' hall.
COMPANY OF SNAKES <> Southampton The Brook
17/6/2001
£11.00 Don Airey had left the band before this show but that meant no keyboard solo or Rainbow songs to spoil the flow. There is a ew vocalist too.

MOSTLY AUTUMN <6> London Mean Fiddler
30/6/2001
£ Tonight was widely advertised as being recorded for DVD release but still the venue was only half to three quarters full, mostly of York area folk bussed down for the occasion.
SKYLINE DRIFTERS <>
John YOUNG  <32>
MADE AGAIN
Stourbridge Rock Cafe
7/7/2001
£10 A charity event that raised 1118 quid for Nordorff-Robbins Music Therapy.
John YOUNG  <33> Salisbury Cloisters
12/7/2001
free Back in the Cloisters and some new faces in the audience lured, no doubt, by the Fish connection.
John YOUNG  <34> Bentworth Star Inn
13/7/2001
free Visitors all the way from Newcastle tonight and it isn't even a convention.
JADIS <5> Nomansland, The New Forest, England The Jadis Garden Gig - 2001
14/7/2001
£ A gig in the drummers parents garden? surely not. It is though and a rather chilly evening was warmed by some great melodic rock.
THE CARDIACS <2>
LANDMARQ <>
PRIMITIVE INSTINCT <1>
Whitchurch Festival
3/8/2001
£12.00 Opening act Primitive Instinct impressed with their brand of prog while Landmarq played a similar set to the one in Liscombe Park a few months before. The Cardiacs are, I guess, prog-punk and attracted a wide audience - pretty teenage girls to fat and ugly 40 or 50 somethings. I think it is fair to say that their fanbase probably avoided the previous acts and also that most fans of those bands probably vacated the premises well before the final note of the Cardiacs set. An acquired taste - and one that I have yet to acquire.

PERFECT ALIBI <1>
JUMP  <36>
UK BLUES PROJECT <1>
GRAVITY <2>
Whitchurch Festival
5/8/2001
£ A strange bill, Gravity (local band) in the same position as last year followed by the rather tedious and uninspired UK Blues Project. Pretty much all the audience had been either sitting or elsewhere until Jump appeared and livened things up. They filled the hall again and, as usual, gave their all with the non-musical highlight being the comments directed at tribute bands and John retuning Pete's guitar as he played on. Always entertaining Jump blew away the earlier bands and stole the thunder from what was a pretty note- perfect but uninspired Floyd cover band. What surprised me about Perfect Alibi was that they seemed to rely on lyric sheets for a fair number of the songs. I would have thought that if the band had really been fans of Floyd they wouldn't require help singing 20 to 30 year old songs.
Jackie LEVEN <> Southampton Talking Heads
7/8/2001
£5.00 Jackie released a new album a couple of weeks before this show and this was a great chance to catch another of his entertaining shows. Debbie Greenwood actually took part in three of the songs this time too so that was a surprise bonus.
acoustic JUMP  <37> Le De Spencer Arms, Downley Common, High Wycombe
11/8/2001
free Initially the show was just Pete and John but Steve made the mistake of turning up to watch and was dragged up for a couple of songs. A bit rough and ready in places (lots of places) as a) this was the first full Pete and John solo show and b) I'd been misleading Pete in the pub during the afternoon. Still, the show attracted people from as far as Swindon and Delaware and the locals provided cannon fodder to the Jones tongue.
